Abstract: Public health has a significant impact on mortality and has been reported in many researches. This is why it is important to evaluate our immediate environment since man’s health lies largely in his environment. This study assessed public attitude to sanitation practices in Effurun, Delta State, Nigeria. The study was done by qualitative survey of the study area where a random sampling technique was employed to obtain response from residents in Effurun on water and accessibility in the study area, sanitation and gray water condition, solid waste management and drainage and occupancy, household pests and diseases. The result of the respondents showed that 63% have access to drinking water regularly within the study area. However, response also shows possible problems relating to water accessibility with respondents indicating conflict with water source use and harsh control of water sources by landlords and land owners which limit water access. Results also indicated that 31% of individuals within the study area were still operating a pit latrines system of faeces disposal while 73% engage in sharing of toilet facilities which are mostly left unclean. The prevalence of shared toilets, existence of pit latrine, negligence of emptying of septic tanks and unhygienic practice associated with cleaning of hands after use of toilet facility show that public health is likely to be breached. The result of the response on solid waste management had 28% and 35% respondents practicing open dump waste disposal and experience of flood respectively in their areas. It can therefore be concluded that the attitude of residents towards public health sanitation is poor and requires attention and intervention.

Abstract: [(η5-C5H4Me)Mo(CO)2PPh3I] undergoes solid state transformation on the formation of a good pellet for FT IR measurement. There was a formation of the products mixture on pelleting using different diluents of group I metal salts on either the cis or the trans isomer of the [(η5-C5H4Me)Mo(CO)2PPh3I] complex. The cis or the trans isomer gave the same IR spectra i.e. a mixture of cis and trans isomer of the complex. It does not matter the isomer started with in the course of solid state transformation reaction, an equilibrium ratio of 30/70 (trans/cis) will still be achieved. The solid state IR spectra show very strong peaks at νco 1957, 1947 and strong peaks at 1867, 1853 cm–1. The individual IR cis/trans isomer will therefore show at 1947 and 1853/1957 and 1867 cm–1. The solution IR spectra gave, cis = 1961, 1875 and trans = 1963, 1882 cm–1 in dry CHCl3. Hence, most of the solid state IR measurement of the organometallic complex of the type (η5-C5H4Me)Mo(CO)2(PPh3)I on pelleting will give isomer mixture.

Abstract: Problems and Prospects of Open and Distance Education in Nigeria Mudasiru Olalere YUSUF (Ph.D) Senior lecturer (Educational Technology) Department of Curriculum Studies and Educational Technology, Faculty of Education University of Ilorin, Ilorin NIGERIA ABSTRACT Distance education as a mean of providing access to education, particularly tertiary level education, has gained great prominence in the world. Nigeria has taken giant steps of recent to introduce open and distance education programme. This paper explores the major terms inherent in open and distance education, its potentials, possible factors that may inhibit successful implementation of the programme, and the use of low and high technological tools for its implementation. The paper recommended the use of Organisation Element Model (OEM) as suggested by (Kaufman, Watkins & Guerra, 2001) for its planning and implementation, and also stressed the need for improvement in electricity and communication services.

Abstract: Media in Distance Learning: The Nigerian National Teachers Institude Distance Education Programme Mudasiru Olalere YUSUF (Ph.D)Senior lecturer (Educational Technology) Ayotunde Atanda FALADEGraduate Student Department of Curriculum Studies and Educational Technology, Faculty of Education University of Ilorin, Ilorin NIGERIA ABSTRACT This study investigated the use of media by distance learners enrolled in the NTI distance education programme. Two hundred and fifty five distance learners drawn from Oyo State, Nigeria, completed a questionnaire to determine the use of media, and factors militating against their effective use by distance learners. Research data were analyzed using percentages. The findings indicated that face-to-face contact and print related media were the major media used for learning. The findings also indicated that lack of fund, ICT facilities, electricity, among others; militate against the use of technology media. Recommendations were made for the provision of basic infrastructures to facilitate the integration of technology in distance education, in Nigeria.

Open Journal of Polymer Chemistry (OJPChem) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojpchem.2014.44011
Abstract: Triglyceride oil of plant seed cannot be used on its own without further modification. The fatty acids must be suitably functionalized in order to add polymerisable functionalities which will help in the curing process. The purpose of these modifications is to reach a higher level of molecular weight and cross-link density, and also to incorporate chemical functionalities known to impart stiffness in a polymer network. The modification can go through various path ways which were described in this study.

Open Journal of Polymer Chemistry (OJPChem) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojpchem.2015.53005
Abstract: This review is based on the surface treatment of natural fibres which can be used in technical applications. Natural fibres on their own have some draw backs regarding moisture uptake, quality variations, low thermal stability, and poor wettability. Insufficient adhesion between polymer matrix and fibre leads in time to debonding. Overcoming the weaknesses of these natural fibres gave the motivation for this study where physical and chemical methods of modification were considered. Physical methods such as electric discharge and mercerization were reported as well as the chemical methods such as graft copolymerization and treatment with isocyanates, and the results due to these modifications were discussed. This study reveals that natural fibres are good candidates for reinforcement but they have to be suitably treated to improve their properties if they are to be used in technical applications. The various fibre surface treatments actually improve the interfacial adhesion between the fibre surface and the matrix, thereby giving good mechanical properties to the resulted polymer composites.

Open Journal of Polymer Chemistry (OJPChem) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojpchem.2015.53004
Abstract: The reviewed work addressed the shift in focus from conventional polymers to bio-based and renewable polymers. The environmental attributes of the renewable polymers make them preferred choice of matrix. The properties of the matrices from renewable origin could compete in high end applications. The composition of the fatty acids in plant seed oil was discussed and the determination of the level of unsaturation used the iodine value. This review also extensively discussed the values of various fatty acid components present in the oils. Areas of application of the thermosetting polymers obtained from plant seed oils were also discussed.

Abstract: Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC) is an infrequent slow growing epithelial tumour constituting for around less than 1% of all the oral and maxillo-facial malignancies and almost 10% of all the salivary gland tumors. Parotid gland is the second most common site to be involved in the head and neck region along with submandibular gland, Palate being the most common site involved in the oral cavity. Key feature of these tumors include its asymptomatic presentation, indolent nature, typically showing infiltrative growth and peri-neural invasion. Herein, we report a case of adenoid cystic carcinoma of right parotid gland of a 33-year-old male who presented with complaint of painless slow enlargement of left parotid gland and facial muscle weakness. On Examination firm mass in the region of the left parotid gland as well as left facial paralysis was seen. Biopsy results and further management is discussed here within.
